Specials TEAMS
LINDSEY BARNETT Art |
lindsey.ott@dcsdk12.org | My name is Lindsey Barnett and I am very excited to be teaching art at Stone Mountain!! This is my 13th year teaching in Douglas County School District as an art teacher, and my 4th year at Stone Mountain Elementary. As your student’s art teacher, I align my lessons to the Colorado Visual Art Standards which include the role of artists in society, seeing art as a form of communication, expression, and part of culture. Students will experience the artistic process, principles of art and elements of design, and how to talk like artists. I love to also connect art lessons with content from the classroom and to art history. All projects will help students use their imaginations and creativity! When I am not teaching art, I spend my free time with my husband, Ted and our one year old little girl, Piper. We spend our time outdoors hiking, skiing, camping, sitting by the pool, traveling the World and of course creating! I enjoy reading, playing board games, and spending time with family and friends. |
CINDY BERNDT Music |
cynthia.berndt@dcsdk12.org Music Website |
I am Cindy Berndt and I’m your child’s music teacher at SME! I have been teaching K-6 general music and choir for 25 years, and I’ve taught beginning and intermediate band and orchestra here and there. My love for music began when I devoted my learning to playing the flute, but I’ve learned to play most instruments. My favorite instrument to teach is the ukulele. I am from Long Island, NY and went to college in central Illinois before moving to Parker, Colorado. My husband of 25 years is a high school math teacher, and our two teenage boys are Drew (18), and Ethan (14.) Our 7 year old cattle dog pup Pepper is a very active member of our family. In my spare time you can probably find me outdoors in the sunshine and actively moving. I enjoy gardening, hiking up 14ers, and cycling. I train for months in the spring to ride my bike across Iowa in a huge weeklong event called RAGBRAI. (This summer will be my 5th RAGBRAI!) Otherwise, the Berndts can be found supporting our boys in their favorite activities: marching band and Volleyball. In our classroom we dance, move with purposeful movement, play instruments, explore sound and space, sing, and perform. We make musical connections to our lives and with the world around us, we discover cultural and historical influences, and we develop personal aesthetic value of music in regards to our individual preferences. I love kids. I love Music. And I love SME! Please come by to say hi and introduce yourself! |

SUSANNAH OSBORNE Investigation Station |
sosborne@dcsdk12.org | This is my second year at SME and I'm honored to be a part of the Cub family. Last year, I taught technology and typing during double specials. This year I have had the chance to broaden experiences. During the first semester I covered a broad range of topics and have worked to provide students with opportunities to explore the engineering process, learn to code and other STEM experiences. I have lived in Colorado for over 10 years with my husband, two kids and our dog Loki. We moved here from Seattle, Washington and have really enjoyed having the outdoor experiences offered in our state. We enjoy board games (traditional games such as Checkers, 7 Wonders, and DnD to name a few), movie nights and exploring Colorado. |
STEPHANIE DEETER Library |
stephanie.deeter@dcsdk12.org | Hi, I'm Stephanie Deeter. I've worked in libraries for over 20 years, and this is the 6th year that I have been the librarian at SME. I'm passionate about reading and connecting students with books to help them become lifelong readers. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two kids traveling, playing board games, and trying out new ice cream shops. I love reading (of course!), doing cross-stitch, and gardening. |
