KYLEE DUREN
Mild/Mod Learning Specialist
kduren@dcsdk12.org My name is Kylee Duren, and I am one of the Learning Specialists at Stone Mountain Elementary. This is my sixth year at SME, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue supporting our amazing students and partnering with families to help each child reach their fullest potential. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with my family. You’ll often find me attending country concerts or enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors. I am passionate about fostering a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, capable, and inspired to grow.

EMILY JANECEK
Speech Pathologist
ejanecek@dcsdk12.org

Ms. Emily has been helping students with their communication skills at SME for the past nine years—and she’s loved every minute of it! She brings not just her speech skills, but also her two kids, along for the school-day adventure. When she’s not busy with speech sounds and silly stories, you’ll find her digging in the garden, exercising, or soaking up time with her favorite people—her family.

CAROLYN BETTNER
Mild/Mod Learning Specialist
cbettner@dcsdk12.org

My name is Carolyn Bettner, and I am the 4th-6th grade Learning Specialist at SME.  This is my 11th year in DCSD, but it is my first year at SME! I couldn't be more excited to work with the amazing SME staff, students, and families! When not at work, you will find me hanging out with family and friends. I love anything that involves being outside in the sunshine, especially swimming, tennis, hiking, gardening, and playing outdoor games.

ELIZABETH ELLIS  Occupational Therapist

ewharry@dcsdk12.org

Hi! I’m Elizabeth Ellis (formerly Wharry), and I’m the school-based occupational therapist at Stone Mountain Elementary and two other schools in the district. Students call me Ms. Elizabeth. I earned my Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University in 2023, and I feel so grateful to be working in a field where I get to support students in building the skills they need to succeed at school and beyond. I focus on things like fine motor skills, handwriting, sensory processing, and how kids can best access learning through play and movement.

I received OT services myself as a child, and I’ve always known I wanted to help others reach their goals and potential. My favorite part of this job is working with the students—they’re always so funny, creative, and sweet! I work with students in all kinds of settings, depending on their needs, and I believe strong communication and collaboration with families and teachers is key. Please don’t hesitate to reach out via email—I'm always happy to connect. Outside of school, I love to read, garden, crochet, and spend time outdoors with my husband and our one-year-old. I truly love working with your kids!

I am excited to be at SME for my fifth year! This is such a special place, and I feel so lucky to have landed here. I am wife to Michael, Mom to Meghan (Austin), Clare, and Colleen (Mike), and Gramma to sweet Rowan Elizabeth, born September 2024. I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, and we moved to Colorado to be closer to our kids. We LOVE living in Highlands Ranch! I am looking forward to a great 2025-26 year ahead.
